A mother and daughter who were struck by cars while crossing the street in New York City were left stunned by the fatal accident.
As the car sped away from them, the mother and two young daughters were thrown out of their vehicle and into the road.
The woman’s family and friends said she had been driving her car through the intersection of East 46th Street and West 36th Street when she was struck by the vehicle.
The accident occurred on Wednesday night as the family was exiting the intersection after going to bed.
Their daughters, who were on the way to school, told local news station WABC-TV that they didn’t think much of the accident until they got home and realized their mother was dead.
“We were shocked to see her body, and we didn’t know what happened,” said the woman’s daughter, who did not want to be named.
“We thought it was some accident.
We just knew something had happened.
She was a very active person.”
She said that the family had no idea that their mother had been killed until they returned to their apartment a few hours later to find the bodies of her two young children.
“I was very shocked to hear the news,” she said.
“The kids said, ‘Mommy, mommy, we can’t breathe.’
It was so sudden.”
The mother was pronounced dead on arrival at Bellevue Hospital.
Her daughter, however, was not.
The mother’s body was discovered the next day at the scene, and her two children were rushed to the hospital.
The cause of the crash has not been determined.
The New York State Police have not commented on the cause of death.
